The character Janet Van Dyne–also known as the heroic Avenger The Wasp–has gotten some much-deserved spotlight in recent years, both in comics and in various films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That attention continues in February 2023, as characters from The Wasp and Ant-Man’s world return in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, in which our heroes will grapple both with exploring the Quantum Realm and the threat of actor Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.

Ahead of that release and in time for the character’s 60th anniversary, Marvel just announced that The Wasp will be getting her own limited series in January 2023, helmed by writer Al Ewing (The Indestructible Hulk), artist Kasia Nie (Mockingbird), and colorist Jordie Bellaire (Ant-Man), and covers by Tom Reilly (Ant-Man). According to the news released by Marvel, Wasp will focus on Janet and her adopted daughter Nadia as Janet sets out to reorient her status as a superhero and an Avenges, while combating threats from both their pasts.

Ewing is no stranger to the world of The Wasp and Ant-Man, currently writing a limited series focusing on Ant-Man and on sale now. Work on that book apparently gave him the bug to do a series focused solely on Janet.

“The Ant-Man series was a whole lot of fun and gave me a new appreciation for Janet Van Dyne and her world – and when I went digging into her past, there was a whole story there just waiting to be unearthed,” Ewing says in the press release, promising to make convert fans of Janet and Nadia when the team on the book is done.

Working on the book appeals to Nie’s love of the character as well. “I’m super excited to work with Al and rest of the team on this anniversary tribute to Wasp,” she explains. “I love Janet, she’s one of my favorite Marvel characters—a mature person with an uneasy past, a successful woman and the best mom to Nadia. She’s unstoppable.”

Artist Tom Reilly, who is currently doing covers for the Ant-Man limited series, is rendering the main covers for Wasp.

The press release also notes that this limited series will lead into another Ewing-penned project in 2023.
