In case there was any doubt that Batman vs. Superman was going to serve as a Justice League origin story, the newly released subtitle for the film, Dawn of Justice, should have wipe those away.

The 2016 sequel to Man of Steel, which is in front of cameras now, will presumably serve triple-duty, then, reintroducing Batman with Ben Affleck under the cowl, setting up the big brawl between the two heroes, and establishing whichever Justice League members Warner Bros. has cast at this point.

We already know that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg will have some part in the film, but that doesn’t preclude Chris Terrio’s (Argo) script to seed in more Leaguers. That would be a damned tricky balance to strike, though – will it be a full-on Justice League thing where Wonder Woman/Diana Prince is actually a name character with actual involvement in the plot, or will she be flitting around the edges as Batman and Superman duke it out and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is doing whatever it is the script, based on a previous draft by David Goyer, has planned for him.

Last week, Warner Bros. released their first shot of the new Batsuit and Batmobile. I kind of dig ’em.

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released May 6, 2016.
