Review: She-Hulk #6

She-Hulk #6 is wonderful entry point to the world of the Jade Goliath, as well as anyone who likes a healthy mix of fun, character, and high stakes in their superhero stories.”

She-Hulk #6

Some of the best She-Hulk comic book tales over the Jade Goliath’s decades-long publication history center on her personal relationships and how she juggles her superhero life, career as a litigator, and personal relationships. And the new She-Hulk series by the creative team of Rainbow Rowell, Luca Maresca, Rico Renzi, Joe Caramagna, and Jen Bartel does not disappoint in any of those facets, particularly with She-Hulk #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics. Issue 6 is one of my favorite types of superhero yarns, especially in She-Hulk’s universe: the conversation issue. Yes, fisticuffs and shoot-em-ups have their place in superhero fare, but it’s the relationships that make me care about any of those larger-than-life battles in the first place.

She-Hulk (2022) #6

Rowell, Maresca, and company certainly don’t disappoint in that respect, as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk has much-needed chats with everyone, from best pal Hellcat for Dress-and-Cake Wednesday; to her law firm’s boss Mallory who doesn’t want superhuman clients despite having Jen as a litigator on payroll; to X-Man Nightcrawler approaching her for legal counsel; to figuring out where she stands with erstwhile hero Jack of Hearts. And that’s what makes this latest iteration of the She-Hulk series stand out in such a stark way. Not only does Jen’s tales feel connected to the larger sprawling Marvel Universe, but those connections have real consequences for every part of her life. While the character of She-Hulk has always been on the quirky side, her stories always stick the landing the best when the creators realize that the quirk doesn’t matter if we don’t care about Jen. Lucky for us, everyone on board producing She-Hulk understands that phenomenally well.

She-Hulk #6 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.

From the official issue description:

HOW MANY MILES DOES IT TAKE…TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE?! The smash hit of 2022 rolls on with its best issue yet. Nightcrawler visits Book Law, but what does HE need legal defense for? And one of the greatest traditions in Marvel Comics history continues here!
