While representation in wide release motion pictures dipped this past year, 2016 was a strong year for outstanding images of the LGBTQ community in comic books, according to GLAAD.

The advocacy group for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community released its Media Awards nominations for this past year. While only Star Trek Beyond and Moonlight were the only major wide release films that garnered nods, GLAAD expanded the nominations in comic books from five to ten contenders, the most in the category’s history.

And deservedly so. 2016 was an exceptional year for LGBTQ representation in four-color media, with comics like Love Is LoveSagaLumberjanes, and Patsy Walker, A.K.A Hellcat! all featuring positive portrayals of LGBTQ characters.

This year’s GLAAD Media Awards will take place on April 1 in Los Angeles.
