With the demise of Yahoo! Screen and, with it, the cancellation of the cult series Community after six seasons (the preceding five airing on NBC), it looked unlikely that the “movie” part of the often-chanted #SixSeasonsAndAMovie hashtag would come to pass. Moreover, with all of the principal cast members and series creator Dan Harmon immersed in other projects, the prospect of a cap to the tale of the staff and students of Greendale Community College seemed deader than Chevy Chase’s Pierce Hawthorne.

However, Harmon recently gave Human Beings a ray of hope in this seemingly darkest timeline. During a recent interview on Larry King Now, the Community series creator told King that Community “would make a great movie” and that “it will happen.” That statement, though, came with some caveats.

If I pull out a typewriter right now and write a Community movie just for my own heart and mind, then I have to go through the heartbreak and agony of finding out which of the people are going to show up to make it. On the other hand, if I wait for everybody to line up and say ‘we’re all out of work and ready to do a Community movie,’ then I guess that’s a bad idea, too.

So, what does this mean? Not much right now, other than the knowledge that Community is still on Harmon’s radar and, if nothing else, that gives us more hope than one of Jeff Winger’s famous speeches.
