Just last week, Marvel released preview pages of the conclusion of writer Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman of the conclusion of their current “The Death of Mighty Thor” story arc, which looks to be the last stand of Jane Foster in her role as guardian of Asgardia. As revealed throughout Aaron and Dauterman’s exploration of Jane as Thor the past few years, every time she wields the enchanted hammer Mjolnir and transforms into the Goddess of Thunder, the magic undoes her chemotherapy treatments. In effect, being Thor is allowing her cancer to kill her.

With Mighty Thor #705, the tale’s final chapter, hitting next month, Marvel has released a behind-the scenes video of Jason Aaron discussing Jane’s journey and how he always envisioned this being the natural progression Jane’s story.

As Aaron states, Jane’s final battle with the Mangog rampaging through Asgardia will have major implications for herself, for Odinson, and for the gods themselves. We’ll see how it plays out when Mighty Thor #705 hits newsstands on March 21st.

From the official press release:

For more than three years, Jason Aaron has been building Jane Foster’s story to its epic conclusion – and it all comes together in Mighty Thor #705! This March, don’t miss the final chapter of Thor’s journey, written by Jason Aaron and drawn by Russell Dauterman, as Mangog’s rampage threatens to bring about the end of Asgard as we know it – and the Goddess of Thunder herself.
