Back in March, it was officially announced that Idris Elba and Matthew McCounaghey would portray Roland Deschain and The Man in Black, respectively, in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. While we got a sneak peek of Elba as Roland recently, hide nor hair has been seen of McCounaghey’s desert-fleeing villain, The Man in Black.

However, images recently hit the web of the sometimes Randall Flagg decked out head to toe in black, wearing threads that have a bit of a modern sensibility. I was on the fence about McCounaghey’s casting, but I have to admit that the actor’s angular features and slinky form really help him embody the Gunslinger’s rival. McCounaghey has shown that he can bring a just-below-the-surface fury in roles such as Rust Cohle in HBO’s True Detective, a sensibility that should serve him well as The Man in Black.

The Dark Tower, directed by Nikolaj Arcel and starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, lands in theaters on January 13, 2017.
