Michael Turner is an artist whose name is synonymous with excellence, bringing a kinetic, dynamic freshness to whatever comic book property his tackled. From his crafting unforgettably iconic covers for such blockbuster miniseries as DC Comics’ Identity Crisis to his breathtaking work on the Superman/Batman story arc introducing Supergirl to the DC Universe and so many other gorgeous works, Michael Turner was taken from us far too soon, but he made an indelible mark on the comics medium while he was here.

To recognize his impact on comics, Clover Press, Aspen Comics, and DC Comics is producing The DC Art of Michael Turner, coming soon to Kickstarter. The tome will be the latest in Clover Press’ prestige comic-centered art books and will be brimming with Turner’s beautiful renderings, including a special “sketchbook” edition featuring a sampling of black-and-white artwork from the collection as well as multiple portfolio sets showcasing Turner’s talents on our favorite DC characters. The DC Art of Michael Turner looks to be an essential component of fans of Turner and comics in general.

After months of preparing and assembling this hardcover, we are extremely excited and honored to bring this book to the fans and keep Michael Turner’s legacy alive and thriving!’

In 1994, Michael Turner began working for Top Cow Productions, co-creating the popular indie comic series Witchblade, before debuting his creator-owned series Fathom in 1998, which became the best-selling comic book of that year. In 2002, Michael left Top Cow Productions to start Aspen MLT LLC., and created the hit indie title Soulfire while continuing his work on Fathom. Beginning in the early 2000s, Turner made a significant artistic impact at DC, most notably through his interior and cover artwork on Superman/Batman, which helped introduce a new generation of fans to Supergirl. Turner would go on to be widely celebrated for his striking cover art featuring legendary DC Super Heroes including Superman, The Flash, and the Justice League. Turner died in 2008, at the age of 37, from complications from treatment for bone cancer.

“Mike’s work really energized the DCU when he was creating covers and interior work at DC. It really made the projects he chose something extra special and inspired his peers to take things to the next level,” said Hank Kanalz, Clover Press Publisher. “Bringing so much of his work together in one book is definitely something extra special.”

The DC Art Of… series debuted in 2025 with The DC Art of Jorge Jimenez, followed by The DC Art of Bruno Redondo in 2026. More books in The DC Art Of… series will be announced in the coming months.
