In just a few short years, Vinne–one of the most popular artists in South America whose acclaim has stretched across the globe–has made a name for himself, in everything from clothing to music to anime. An now in collaboration with Clover Press, Vinne is releasing The Art of Vinne – My Way, showcasing his art from 2018 to now. Funding via Kickstarter, My Way is a 140-page hardcover filled with Vinne’s art and designs, packaged with the same care and craftsmanship that Clover has become known for over the years.
I caught up with Vinne to speak with him briefly about The Art of Vinne – My Way, his partnership with Clover Press, and what he hopes readers take away from his art in the compilation.
FreakSugar: Before we talk about the Kickstarter, you talk about how anime inspires your work. What is it about anime that appeals to you and inspires you?
Vinne: Anime is important just because of the inspiration it gave me when developing my earlier works. I still like anime, but I haven’t really watched much lately.
FS: Following up on that, aside from anime, what else would you say informs your art?
V: Fashion mostly. I really love dressing the characters. A lot of other subjects represent my interest but aren’t really the focus like fashion is.
FS: On to the Kickstarter itself, how did the partnership with Clover Press come about?
V: They asked me about developing something together. I really like how they work, so I decided to step into it.
FS: What can you tell us about some of the pieces we’ll find in My Way?
V: A lot of the book shows my progress. There are pieces I didn’t even remember I had. Overall, it’s a good way to inspire people.
FS: What do you hope readers take away—emotionally, personally—from your work in My Way?
V: I hope they get the same excitement I have when I realize I’ve grown up and mastered my own style.
As of press time, the Kickstarter for Clover Press’ The Art of Vinne: My Way has already hit its initial funding goal more than 12 TIMES OVER with 27 days still left in the campaign. If you want a feast for the eyes, this campaign is well worth a look.
From the official press release about the Kickstarter:
23-year-old international superstar Vinne started his career on Instagram in 2018 and quickly became one of the most popular and influential artists in South America. Vinne’s career runs the gamut from the music world (including a collaboration project with the band Bring Me the Horizon and Never Say Die Records) and anime (participation of EVANGELION x pixiv Fanart Collection) to fashion (his clothing and lifestyle brand Hex Termina) and car culture (working for PRIX Workshop, PINKFLAMINGOUSA, etc.). Now, the self-taught artist is preparing to release MY WAY, a new hardcover art book collecting the best of Vinne’s art from 2018 to 2024 with Clover Press – the publisher behind countless acclaimed graphic novels, art books and novels including The Marvel Art Of line of books, Ricardo Delgado’s Dracula, Spawn Till You Die: The Fin Art of Ray Troll, and Craig Yoe’s Woman & Man+.
Collecting the best of Vinne’s art from 2018 to 2024, MY WAY is Clover Press’s latest artbook. Boasting over 140 pages of amazing art, this deluxe hardcover features many of Vinne’s personal illustrations, concepts, and designs, collected all in one volume.
Vinne’s dynamic, anime-inspired artwork brings life to everything he works on. In recent years he has provided illustrations for the liner notes of Bring Me the Horizon’s 2024 album Post Human: Next Gen (Sony, RCA), created the cover of Must Die!’s 2021 album Crisis Vision: Redux (Never Say Die Records), contributed art to Anime NYC’s 2019 Mascot Fanart Project, and worked with a vast list of clients including pixiv, Vandy the Pink, Evangelion, and KWA Airsoft. He’s currently focused on Hex Termina, his pop-up clothing and lifestyle brand, inspired by fantasy, medieval and anime elements. He recently successfully mounted his store in H4LO in Harajuku,Tokyo.
“My art journey starts with Japanese culture after watching anime as a kid,” explains Vinne. “It soon evolved when I discovered different artists and found my main inspirations such as Yoshitaka Amano, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and more. After making the decision to work on art, I also discovered fashion, then I just needed to make a bridge between all these things, making something truly real and new.”
“Our passion for upscale hardcover artbooks has no boundaries, and we’re proud to add this new book to our collection. We were introduced to Vinne after working with pixiv on our two stunning books, Artists in Taiwan and Artists in Korea, and were impressed with his talent and accomplishments at such a young age,” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz. “We’re slowly building our line of artbooks, with quality artists from around the world.”
