Have faith, citizens of Earth. The Purple One has heard your cries and has come to deliver you from the banality of mere existence so you may once again rock, unencumbered by the shackles of the greyness of everyday life. That’s right, folks: Prince is back.
On September 30, His Royal Badness will release not one, but two new original albums, proving that miracles happen if you just believe hard enough. Like flapping your arms so the Angels can win a baseball game. That kind of miracle. Art Official Age, a solo LP which was recently announced, and Plectrumelectrum, a record with the group 3rdEyeGirl, will debut simultaneously, proving that, yes, sometimes faith is rewarded. You can hit the official website for Art Official Age to pre-order both albums, which will come coupled with “instant gratification” downloads for those of you who are as impatient as kids waiting for Christmas morning. While we don’t know all the details just yet, supposedly there will be special events and live dates spanning the globe featuring the Artist formerly known as the Artist in celebration of the musician’s first released albums in nearly five years.
The Kid himself has been slowly providing small tastes of what the albums will have to offer, already giving us a look and listen to “BREAKFAST CAN WAIT,” “BREAKDOWN,” and “FUNKNROLL” from Art Official Age and ”CLOUDS,” “PRETZELBODYLOGIC,” and “FIXURLIFEUP” from Plectrumelectrum. (Note that the cover art for “BREAKFAST CAN WAIT” single is just comedian Dave Chappelle dressed as Prince and it is the best thing ever.) The complete track listings to both albums can be seen below.

And the icing on the purple, ruffled cake: Fans who pre-order the albums on the official website will be entered for a chance to be whisked away to Paisley Park in Minnesota in October for a special concert featuring the Purple One. Yes, you could hold court with musical royal badassery.
So mark your calendars, ladies and gents. The path to September 30 will be a long slog, but you can pre-order the albums now at the Art Official Age website. And in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for the 30th anniversary reissue of the incomparable and indispensable album Purple Rain to be released in November.
