The CW has found its Batwoman in actress Ruby Rose. The Orange Is the New Black and John Wick 2 star will swing into the Arrowverse this December for the first time during The CW’s Arrow/Supergirl/Legends of Tomorrow/The Flash crossover event.

Kate Kane/Batwoman

The version of Batwoman and her alter ego Kate Kane will line up with the version currently appearing in the DC Universe, who is a Jewish lesbian and one of DC Comics’ first openly gay characters and former West Point attendee. While her ethnicity and sexuality will remain the same in the Arrowverse, it’s unclear at this point whether Kate’s military background will remain the same. However, a CW press release describes Batwoman as a “highly trained street fighter…who must overcome her own demons” before becoming Gotham’s savior.

Ruby Rose in JOHN WICK 2

The Batwoman pilot is poised to hit The CW during the 2018-2019 television mid-season. It’ll depend on that pilot’s performance whether the show will be picked up for a full season.
