After not a stitch of news about a return of Netflix’s Black Mirror, creator Charlie Brooker’s anthology series that veers on the side of dark satire, the streaming service just announced that a seventh season would be dropping sometime next year. That return will include something not seen yet in Black Mirror: a sequel to a previous episode.

Revealed at the “Next on Netflix” event in London and via press release, the new season will see a return to the world built in the episode “USS Callister,” a popular installment in season 4 of the series. In the episode starring Jesse Plemons and Cristin Milioti, Plemons’ Robert Daly subjugates DNA/digital clones of his coworkers and forces them to act as the crew of the Star Trek-inspired USS Callister. Milioti’s character, who works on Plemons’ video design team in the real world, finds out about Plemons’ misdeeds and helps the crew free themselves.

The press release states, “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.” The 28-second YouTube clip released with the news shows an outline of the USS Callister itself.

There will be five more episodes in the season, but no details on those have been released as of yet. We’ll just have to wait patiently as new information emerges as we move closer to season 7 of Black Mirror premiering in 2025.
