While Din Djarin–the titular protagonist of Disney+‘s The Mandalorian–appeared in several episodes of 2021-2022’s The Book of Boba Fett, Din (played by Pedro Pascal) and his surrogate son Grogu haven’t been seen in their own series since the end of season 2 in 2020. However, that changed today at Disney’s D23 Expo when a teaser trailer dropped for season 3 of The Mandalorian, promised to debut in 2023.
The trailer begins with news that Din has been excommunicated from his particular sect of Mandalorians after removing his helmet one too many times. Although Grogu left with Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker at the end of season 2 to train in the ways of the Force, Din and Grogu were reunited in The Book of Boba Fett and the two are shown gallivanting all through this trailer. While it’s unclear whether they will be friends or foes, Din and another Mandalorian, Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff, who appeared as the character in season 2) will have dealings in this new season, along with other Mandalorians and the planet Mandalore.
In addition to Din, Grogu, and Bo-Katan, we get glimpses of Amy Sedaris‘ Peli Motto and Carl Weathers‘ Greef Karga, as well as the character Babu Frik, who last appeared in 2019’s Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Giancarlo Esposito‘s Moff Gideon, last seen in season 2, will also appear in the new season, along with actor Christopher Lloyd in an unnamed role.
The Mandalorian season 3 lands on Disney+ next year.
