The much anticipated Black Adam film–starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson–has had several hiccups, delays, and false starts over nearly a decade. However, this October, the film featuring the DC Comics villain/anti-hero will hit theaters, with Johnson joined by many members of the comic company’s Justice Society. Today, Warner Brothers, New Line Cinema, and DC Entertainment just dropped the first trailer of the movie, with fans one step closer to finally seeing Johnson’s and director Jaume Collet-Serra’s vision realized on the silver screen.
Black Adam focuses on the titular character as he finds himself navigating our modern world after a 5,000 year imprisonment. Using the powers bestowed upon him by the ancient gods, Black Adam will use his gifts to bring order to today’s era, even if it means using questionable tactics–including killing–to get the job done, whatever job that may be. And, as mentioned, heroes from the Justice Society will appear in the film to attempt to stave off Black Adam’s blood-lust, including Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), with the latter shown having a standoff with Black Adam in the trailer.
We wonder if Shazam‘s titular hero will make any sort of appearance in the film, as Black Adam has long been a foil for the similarly-powered superhero. Regardless, we’ll find out when Black Adam hits theaters on October 19th internationally and on October 21st in North America.
