Last month at the New York Comic-Con, Marvel Comics announced that it would be shutting its recently revitalized Ultimate Universe line in April 2026 with the last issue of Ultimate Endgame. Many folks, including Ultimate Universe architect Jonathan Hickman, were taken by surprise at the news when he received it from Marvel president Dan Buckley. However, as Buckley explained at NYCC, he saw the story the the creators of the line crafted as having a beginning, middle, and end, wanting the tale standing on its own.

Still, it seems that Marvel isn’t quite done with the Ultimate Universe past that April 2026 date. Recently, the House of Ideas announced via press release that in June Marvel’s heroes will see Armageddon, a story crafted by current Captain America writer Chip Zdarsky. The press release promised that this event will “[change] the face of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a way not seen since Avengers: Disassembled, the event that redefined the team for the 21st century.” The event will spin out of storylines Zdarsky is penning in his Captain America run and in Ultimate Universe: Incursion.
