It’s always a phenomenal day when word of a new series featuring Mandy Patinkin (Homeland, Criminal Minds, so many more projects) hits the Internet. And today is a good day. Hulu just dropped a press release with info and photos about the new Hulu Original series Death and Other Details starring Violett Beane (God Friended Me; The Flash) and Patinkin, and it sounds delightful:

Set amidst the glamor of the global elite, “Death and Other Details” centers on the brilliant and restless Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), who finds herself in the wrong place/wrong time (okay, it was kinda her fault) and becomes the prime suspect in a locked room murder mystery. The setting? A lavishly restored Mediterranean ocean liner. Suspects? Every pampered guest and every exhausted crew member. The problem? To prove her innocence, she must partner with a man she despises—Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin), the world’s greatest detective.

Hulu has done phenomenally well with series such as Only Murders in the Building, and it’s no wonder that it would try to replicate that sense of whimsy and intrigue. But Death and Other Details doesn’t have the look or feel of a copycat; it has a fully-realized vibe about it that will appeal to mysteries-with-a-quirky-twist. The cast is stacked, with Beane and Patinkin cast in roles that they’ll most assuredly have fun with.
