Oni Press’ Rick and Morty comics are celebrating a milestone in 2025: 10 years of the four-colored comic adventures of the time- and dimension-hopping duo. And to celebrate this reality-shattering occasion, Oni Press has just launched a Kickstarter massive enough to do the pair justice: the RICK AND MORTY 10th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE OMNIBUS LIBRARY! Five huge hardcover collections. 100 issues. 2,000 pages. And two ALL-NEW, UNREPRINTABLE Rick and Morty comics with two names synonymous with Rick and Morty’s hijinks: Eisner Award-nominated writer Kyle Starks and Eisner Award-nominated artist Troy Little.

Lord mercy, that’s more insanity than all of McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce packets every produced!

I spoke with Kyle Starks and Troy Little recently about the omnibus, their Kickstarter-exclusive, never-being-printed-again story, working on the characters so long, and what keeps working on the Rick and Morty universe fresh for them.

Kyle Starks and Troy Little are as much responsible for the success of and building the mythos for Rick and Morty as Dan Harmon himself. Their talent is unquestioned, but their enthusiasm for continuing to revisit Rick and Morty make their stories all the more special, in this or any universe.

FreakSugar: You all have worked on Rick and Morty’s comic adventures for some time now. How does it feel being involved in a 10th anniversary project like this, especially with Kyle coming back after a 5-year period away from the Rick and Morty-verse ?

Kyle Starks: For me it’s a sincere honor for Oni to ask me back to work on this monumental moment in the history of the Rick and Morty comic line. I put a lot of my life into Rick and Morty comic books, and it’s so special to be asked back to contribute here. It really means a lot to me.

Troy Little: Finally having an opportunity to work with Kyle has been awesome. I’ve sort of been on the periphery of the Rick and Morty universe with the VS Dungeons & Dragons / VS Cthulhu books and some variant covers, so this is like being brought into the fold by the Godfather.

FS: What can you tell us about your contribution to the omnibus—if anything?

KS: I mean, outside of 48 butt kicking issues of Rick and Morty fun? Troy and I are doing a comic that will never be printed ANYWHERE but in this Kickstarter. For me, it’s coming back for ONE MORE moment with my old friend, the Rick and Morty universe. We’re bringing stuff that’s never been seen before and will never be seen again! It’s very exciting.

TL: I’m happy to provide the anomaly in this beast. A mote of cilantro in the cornucopia. The proverbial cherry-on-top, if you will.

FS: Following up on that, are there ideas you’ve included you’ve always wanted to do but hadn’t gotten to that we’ll see in the issues?

KS: This is 100% that for me. I did 48 issues but still had one idea I never got around to doing that I always wanted to do, and so this felt like kismet when they asked me if I wanted to do one more issue. And the backup, smaller story we did together was just wanting to sort of chime in on what came after my last issue, the last issue of the main series and to have a bunch of fun with Troy—who’s just an incredible talent.

TL: I am but a humble servant to the Master Wordsmith doing my best to enhance these tales with pictographic marvels. It was a blast playing around with the characters and getting really creative with the layouts to tell these energetic little romps.

FS: Working on the comics for so long, what keeps Rick and Morty’s world(s) fresh for you? What makes you continue to gravitate toward their adventures?

KS: The thing about Rick and Morty is that it’s endless possibility but with the most familiar people you can imagine. It’s insanity with family, and that’s so relatable and magical. But also, story-wise, you can do anything with Rick and Morty, and that’s a rare, rare opportunity to have in front of you as a storyteller.

TL: Absolutely, Rick and Morty is a cartoonist’s dream project. When the shackles are off and anything goes, you get something really special and for me that’s just the best. The more time I spend with these characters, the more I want to see how far I can push things, and the brilliant thing is I don’t believe there’s a wall to hit.

FS: If you had a final pitch for the Kickstarter, what would it be?

KS: For something for them to add or for why fans of the series should pick it up? My pitch for why people should pick it up is that we were making new content for this property they love for years. There’s a ton of really great Rick and Morty antics that you’ve never seen that are going to tickle you in the same way the TV show does. It’s a lot of great content! My pitch for something in the Kickstarter is I could use a Meeseeks Box. We’re heading towards lawncare season and I don’t wanna do it!

TL: A multiverse in a box! You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, and it will become your most cherished possession. It’s physical media at its finest and you get bragging rights for becoming One of the Chosen who have read the UNREPRINTABLE RICK AND MORTY!

But wait, there’s more!

“For the last decade, Oni Press has been publishing time-shattering, space-frolicking, insane comics based on Adult Swim’s seminal adult animated series by some of the best cartoonists working today,” said Oni Press Senior Editor Bess Pallares. “To celebrate this historic occasion, we had no choice but to crank the volume even higher and do something even more outrageous, so we hired two seminal storytellers – writer Kyle Starks and artist Troy Little – to create a UNREPRINTABLE RICK AND MORTY story that will never again be re-printed.”

Starks (Peacemaker Tries Hard!), who is writing his first new RICK AND MORTY story for a comic in five years. The story is illustrated by Eisner Award nominee and fellow RICK AND MORTY veteran Troy Little (Cult of the Lamb) and features an all-new cover by Little, printed on durable foil cover stock.

“It’s pretty sick,” says Little.

“It really is,” says Starks.

“We should do another story,” says Little.

They did.

THE UNREPRINTABLE RICK AND MORTY #2 by Starks and Little is an exclusive, eight-page postscript to the first issue. “The second UNREPRINTABLE issue exists in a quantum state of even more intense rarity because it’s strictly limited to just 500 copies,” explains Starks.

All told, the RICK AND MORTY 10th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE OMNIBUS LIBRARY campaign features a cornucopia of collectible exclusives, including a brand-new, never-before-seen variant cover for RICK AND MORTY (2015) #1 by artist Dave Bardin (Wolverine), RICK AND MORTY blank variant remarques by Kyle Starks, an authentic RICK AND MORTY original art interior page by Marc Ellerby (Dr. Who), five super-sick Rick and Morty’s Greatest Hits” trading cards” (including a foil “Pickle Rick” card!), a heavy-duty 11×17” giclee art print by artist Tony Fleecs (Stray Dogs), signature plates signed by Kyle Starks, all-new, hand-drawn remarques, and original artwork by Kyle Starks and Marc Ellerby … plus THE UNREPRINTABLE RICK & MORTY #1 and #2.
