In this year’s Hellfire Gala, death and destruction descended upon the mutant nation of Krakoa in the form of Orchis. One fatality was particularly crushing: that of the X-Woman Jean Grey–sometimes known as Marvel Girl, other times known as The Phoenix. However, Jean is alive, as shown in last month’s Jean Grey #1 miniseries. The wherefores and whys of that survival are unclear, but what we do know is that she is reflecting on her life’s decisions and looking where she–and mutantkind–would have ended up had she taken a different path.
In issue #1, Jean considered what life might have looked like had she and the rest of the original five X-Men had retained their memories of the future when they returned to their own time. (Spoiler alert: It was fairly disastrous.) Next Wednesday, September 27, writer Louise Simonson, artist Bernard Chang, letterer Ariana Maher, and colorist Marcelo Maiolo will examine what would have happened had Jean not piloted the ship that led to bonding with The Phoenix Force. Check out these preview pages of Jean Grey #2, along with the cover by Amy Reeder!
Jean Grey #2 goes on sale Wednesday, September 27, from Marvel Comics.
