We’ve been covering cartoonist Dean Haspiel’s comics for years, following his cavalcade of characters like Chest Face, COVID Cop, and The Red Hook. Now Haspiel looks to put all of his creations under one roof: a new one-man anthology.
Just today, Haspiel launched the Kickstarter for Antimatter, the aforementioned anthology that features all of Chest Face, COVID Cop, and more with all new tales for readers old and new.

Cartoonist Dean Haspiel Launches Comic-Book Kickstarter for ANTIMATTER, a one-man anthology.
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Oct. 7, 2025 – Today Emmy Award-winning cartoonist Dean Haspiel launched a Kickstarter campaign for ANTIMATTER, his new one-man anthology comic book.

From superhero to semi-autobio, ANTIMATTER flexes a sublime synergy of sequential art for mature readers.
Haspiel is best known for creating The Red Hook, and Billy Dogma, collaborating with Harvey Pekar and Jonathan Ames, and illustrating for HBO’s Bored to Death. His three-decade career includes writing and drawing for Marvel, DC/Vertigo, Archie, Image, and Webtoon.
Dean Haspiel’s ANTIMATTER is inspired by groundbreaking one-person comix anthologies by the likes of Dan Clowes’ EIGHTBALL, Jessica Abel’s ARTBABE, and Adrian Tomine’s OPTIC NERVE but with a twist. Imagine if Jack Kirby owned all the characters he created and co-created for Marvel and DC Comics. From Captain America and The Hulk to The Fantastic Four and the New Gods. Now imagine Kirby launching a series called ”Kirby Krackle,” featuring new stories from any combination of his characters. Haspiel says, “Imagine picking up an issue featuring The Thing, Captain Victory, Mister Miracle and Big Barda. How cool would that be?”
The debut of ANTIMATTER will feature “Covid Cop Insurrection.” While battling Admiral Amok’s horrific hybrids of America’s most coveted icons in Times Square, Lincoln Bio and Fate Majeure recruit what’s left of humanity, including the only two people immune to the deadly virus, to storm the United States Capitol to end President Pestilence’s evil

Along with print and digital editions of the comic, tiered rewards for the Kickstarter campaign include a signed print, a Red Hook head sketch, all five Dean Haspiel Deep Cut books, a guest appearance on the VITO x DINO podcast, a one-on-one virtual comics consultation and original art commissions.
