Writer Benjamin Percy’s monumental run on Wolverine ends this May with issue #50, capping off Percy’s cumulative 130-issue+, seven-year stretch as a steward of the X-Man. The issue also coincides with another milestone for the character: Wolverine’s 50th anniversary year, 50 years since his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #180-181. And in anticipation of the occasion, Marvel has just released details and art from issue #50 to sate readers’ appetites before this final chapter of Percy, Victor LaVelle, Geoff Shaw, and Cory Smith’s “Sabretooth War” goes on sale.

In addition to closing out that epic confrontation between Logan and Sabretooth, Percy and artist Javi Fernández will give us a story that reflects on Wolverine’s history and staying power. And we’ll get a story from legendary Wolverine writer Larry Hama featuring Wolvie and his buddy Jubilee.

As for his feelings on ending his Wolverine run, Percy had this to say:

Fifty issues of Wolverine is a hell of a lot to be thankful for. But the math gets hairier when I do some accounting. I’ve actually been writing Logan — in the audio drama, in X-Force and Wolverine and all the crossovers and spin-off events — for seven years, twenty episodes, and a hundred thirty-ish issues. That’s a whole lot of SNIKT. That’s a big part of my life and career, and I feel nothing but gratitude for the experience. I can’t believe I’ve been lucky enough to serve as the custodian of a character who is so important to me. Thanks, bubs, for joining the mayhem.

On closing out his run, Percy shared, “Fifty issues of Wolverine is a hell of a lot to be thankful for. But the math gets hairier when I do some accounting. I’ve actually been writing Logan — in the audio drama, in X-Force and Wolverine and all the crossovers and spin-off events — for seven years, twenty episodes, and a hundred thirty-ish issues.
