For months now, while Warner Bros. has been dropping a smattering of images from August’s Suicide Squad film here and there, there’s been nary a piece of footage released to the public in a goodly bit. Tonight, the movie stopped giving us morsels and dropped the whole damn steak in the form of new full-length trailer!
I’ve admittedly been a bit on the fence about Suicide Squad–based on DC Comics’ “worst of the worst” villains who do good deeds in exchange for commuted prison sentences–since the first image of Will Smith (Concussion), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers’ Club), and the rest of the cast hit the Internet. However, actually seeing the actors’ performances in this trailer–particularly that of the much lauded Leto as the Joker and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street)–has made me perk up my ears, my interest piqued. While I’m still not sold on the new look of the Clown Prince of Crime, I’m in and I’m really excited to see what this cast can do. Hell, I’m more eager now to see the Squad in action than I am to see Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and that’s saying a good deal.
Also, setting the trailer to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” didn’t hurt.
Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, hits theaters August 5th.
