It’s all been building to this, folks. After a decade worth of films, the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe–including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange–are finally assembling to stave off a threat to great for any of them to face alone. Today, following leaked footage online over the weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios released the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. (Folks who attended this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 expo already got a taste of the film ahead of the rest of the waiting public.) It’s Everybody versus Thanos in this newly-released footage. Watch on:
I don’t even know where to start. The months of waiting have definitely been worth the anticipation, littered with “Oh damn!” moments: from Black Panther declaring “Get [Captain America] a shield” to the whole of the armies of Wakanda facing off Thanos’ forces to to Thanos forcibly taking the mind stone from Vision’s forehead to Thor asking the Guardians of the Galaxy “Who the Hell are you?” If you look up “epic” in the dictionary, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more fitting example.
Infinity War will follow Thanos attempting to complete the Infinity Gauntlet to effectively become god of the universe. It will take the whole of the MCU to stop his machinations, and even that may not be enough to stop the Mad Titan. Regardless, the Avengers will assemble all the same to try.
Not going to lie: I still have goosebumps. A damn good way to start a Wednesday.
Avengers: Infinity War, directed by the Russo brothers and starring more actors than you can shake an Infinity Gauntlet at, drops in theaters May 4th, 2018.
